What do I do if I am concerned about a student?

If you are concerned about a student, it is highly recommended that you personally connect the student with the Counseling Center, which may include personally walking the student to the center or connecting the student with the center through email.

Once connected with campus resources, you can submit a referral through the Office of Student Conduct’s Students of Concern page. This ensures that the student will remain connected with campus resources, and that your information can be connected to other referrals so that those working with the student have a full picture of the issues involved.

What if I can’t solve an issue with a student on my own?

The NCSU Student Ombuds Services is able to assist in resolving problems related to students’ university working, learning, or living experience. The ombudsman serves as a neutral party to listen and discuss problems, offer possible informal solutions to problems, and direct students to campus resources and procedures that can help address the issue.

The NCSU Office of Student Conduct can also educate students about the policies, rules, and regulations that will affect their time at NC State.Through this office, you can report an academic integrity violation, or a non-academic violation such as use of drugs or alcohol, harassment, disorderly conduct, etc. The Office of Student Conduct also provides information on hiring attorneys/advocates, as well as provides resources for victims of misconduct.

How do I accommodate student disabilities?

NCSU’s Student Disability Services provides faculty resources on how to meet their obligations in creating accessible course content and providing accommodations to students with disabilities. If you have questions or need clarification on accommodations, you can contact a staff member of the Disability Services Office.

Additionally, it is important to note accommodations are not retroactive, and students will have to register with the DSO as early as possible to allow for implementation. As an instructor, you can remind students early in the semester to register if needed, and open the lines of communication between yourself and students.

Where can I get help with my online class?

NCSU DELTA Services can assist with the course design, learning technology, and instructional materials of distance education courses. Along with the DELTA Help Desk, you can also request instructional consultation, request custom group training, and request video/media production help. DELTA also offers workshops that go over various technological skills and instructional techniques you can utilize in the classroom.
